How To - Connect Rio to Home or Car Stereo
Solution Connecting a Rio player to another audio device is easy, the device just needs to be able to support an INPUT function. Basically you connect the Rio player to output to something other than a pair of headphones.

Currently, there are three inputs that Rio is aware of; RCA Adapter Audio Cable, RF Modulator or Cassette Adapter. You can purchase these adapters anywhere audio accessories are sold.

RCA LINE INPUT

An RCA Adapter Audio Cable is a cable that has an 1/8" stereo headphone plug on one end and a pair of Red and White RCA plugs on the other.

- Connect one end of RCA Adapter Audio Cable to the LINE INPUT on ANY device
- Connect the other end of RCA Adapter Audio Cable to the Rio player
- On the device, change to the LINE INPUT that you connect to, it must match
- On the Rio, set the EQ to OFF or NORMAL or 0 db across all bands
- On the Rio, set the VOLUME level to 23 [or 15 for older units that only go to a volume level of 20]
- Use the Rio for playback, do not adjust tonal or volume controls through the Rio

CASSETTE ADAPTER

A Cassette Adapter is a device that converts a line output to a cassette. To use this device you will simply insert the cassette just as you normally would play a tape. Recommended for car or automobile applications. It may not work in a home cassette deck, as the connecting cord may interfere with the closing of the cassette door.

- Connect the Cassette Adapter to the Rio player
- Insert the Cassette Adapter into the Cassette Deck
- On the Rio, set the EQ to OFF or NORMAL or 0 db across all bands
- On the Rio, set the VOLUME level to 23 [or 15 for older units that only go to a volume level of 20]
- Use the Rio for playback, do not adjust tonal or volume controls through the Rio

RF MODULATOR

An RF Modulator is a device that converts a line output to radio frequency. To use this device you will tune your radio to a pre-determined station and play the Rio as if it were a radio station.

There are two types of RF Modulators; one that connects wirelessly and another that is hard-wired into your car. The wireless RF Modulator will typically will plug into a cigarette or lighter plug in your car.

- Connect the RF Modulator to the Rio player
- Additional installation may be required, depending on the type of RF Modulator you purchased
- Select the frequency on the RF Modulator [example: 88.7 MHz]
- On the FM radio, tune to the same frequency [example: 88.7 MHz]
- On the Rio, set the EQ to OFF or NORMAL or 0 db across all bands
- On the Rio, set the VOLUME level to 23 [or 15 for older units that only go to a volume level of 20]
- Use the Rio for playback, do not adjust tonal or volume controls through the Rio
