Solution
The PlaysForSure logo assures that digital audio devices and online music stores have been tested and verified to work properly together. When you see the PlaysForSure logo at your favorite online music store, you will know that audio tracks you purchase from the store will play for sure on your Rio player.
Your Rio player is a PlaysForSure device and is compatible with PlaysForSure Audio Downloads and PlaysForSure Audio Subscriptions.
The iTunes Music Service, and certain other music services, do not use the PlaysForSure logo. Tracks downloaded from the iTunes Music Service, and certain other online music services, cannot be played on your Rio player.
PLAYSFORSURE AUDIO DOWNLOAD
Most online music stores sell digital music that can be downloaded onto your Rio player. When you purchase an audio download you pay once to download a specific track. Tracks purchased in this way can be played for an unlimited amount of time, subject to the restrictions specified by the online music store.
PLAYSFORSURE AUDIO SUBSCRIPTION
Some online music stores sell subscription services that let you download an unlimited number of tracks for a monthly fee. These subscription services allow you to download as many tracks as you want, but if you stop paying your monthly subscription fee and the subscription expires, the tracks cannot be played.
When you use PlaysForSure Audio Subscription services, you must connect your Rio player to your computer via USB and visit your online music subscription store at least once each billing period (or as otherwise required) so the Rio player knows that the Audio Subscription has not expired. Windows Media Player 10 and Windows XP Service pack 1 (or greater) must be installed on your computer to use PlaysForSure Audio Subscription tracks.

WHAT DO I NEED?
AUDIO SUBSCRIPTION
Windows Media Player 10 and Windows XP Service Pack 1 (or greater) must be installed on your computer to use PlaysForSure Audio Subscription tracks. Rio Music Manager users must download version 2.95 or later.
AUDIO DOWNLOAD
A current version of Windows Media Player must be installed on your computer to use PlaysForSure Audio Download tracks.

WHAT'S NEW?
- TRANSFER MODE
When connected to your computer, your Rio player will decide which transfer mode, MSC (Mass Storage Class) or MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), is most appropriate for your computer. If Windows Media Player 10 (WMP10) and Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) (or greater) are installed on your computer, your Rio player will default to MTP mode functionality. If your computer does not have WMP10 and SP1 (or greater) installed, your Rio player will default to MSC mode functionality.
WMA* PlaysForSure Audio Download and Audio Subscription tracks have an asterisk next to the audio type on the Rio player's display.
- PORTABLE PLAYER
When connected to a computer, your Rio player will be displayed as a Portable Media Device in My Computer when in MTP mode, not as a Removable Disk, as is the case when the Rio player is in MSC mode.
- FORMAT USING RIO MUSIC MANAGER
You can format your Rio player using Rio Music Manager 2.95.
- PLAYLIST SUPPORT IN WMP 10
You can now transfer playlists to your Rio player using Windows Media Player 10 in Windows XP.
- FOLDER SUPPORT
You can now playback content via folder view on your Rio player.
- MUSIC SERVICES
Currently, Napster To Go, Rhapsody and Yahoo! Music support PlaysForSure Audio Subscription downloads. Expect even more services to appear over the coming year giving you lots of options for purchasing music.
Most online music stores provide their own unique and proprietary download managers that you can use to transfer tracks to your computer and your Rio player. Using the online music store's download manager to transfer their tracks to your computer and then using Windows Media Player or Rio Music Manager to transfer the tracks from your computer to your Rio player will provide the best user experience.
Some online music stores require that you use their download manager to transfer tracks to your Rio player. Please contact the applicable online music store for information on how to use their download manager.
- LICENSE VERIFICATION
Every time your Rio player plays a PlaysForSure Audio Subscription track, it needs to verify that the track's subscription license has not expired. A delay before playback begins is not uncommon while your Rio player is acquiring the license. Skipping forward or reverse through multiple PlaysForSure Audio Subscription tracks may cause longer playback delays.
